The Fadas came together as a group of four music friends in 2017 to share songs and traditional music on a Thursday night in Nives’ kitchen in Kildimo, Co Limerick.

All four musicians had many years of experience in performing in different music contexts. Three more friends joined a year later and the breadth of music widened to reflect everyone’s individual music interests. Thursday night became the highlight of the week, where ‘The Fadas’ continue to enjoy playing and working on new arrangements for songs and music, sometimes back in Nives’ kitchen or in music venues in West Limerick including Adare, Foynes, Shanagolden and venues in Kerry including Dingle, Cloghane and Brandon.

Their music influences are predominately from the bands that gave traditional music a huge revival in the 70s and 80s. including bands and individual musicians such as The Chieftains, Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers, Planxty, The Bothy Band, The Dubliners, De Danann, The Furey Brothers and Davey Arthur, Stockton’s Wing and The Waterboys just to mention a few. Individual musicians such as Tony McMahon, Joe Burke, Christy Moore and many more, too numerous to mention here.

They also share a passion for American Folk, Country, Bluegrass of the 60s, 70s, 80s and are interested in musicians like Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine and Bob Dylan again to mention but a few. They have developed and evolved into a band that can perform a wide variety of music and their passion is to perform and bring joy to our audiences.
