Over the years

Dublin born

Don Baker has built a solid reputation as a singer, guitarist, harmonica player and songwriter. Many of his own compositions offer disarmingly honest reflections on aspects of his own life and personality, and he has openly spoken of his deeply spiritual approach to life and people. He has recorded several acclaimed albums, including Almost Illegal, Born With the Blues, Duckin' & Divin', Miss You, No Regrets Live in Concert, Just Don Baker, No Nonsense and Rain On The Wind. Don's 2013 album, My Songs, My Friends, features a selection of his own songs sung and played by a star-studded line-up of guests including Liam O Maonlai, Brian Kennedy, Gemma Hayes, Finbar Furey, Sinead O'Connor, Eleanor McEvoy, John Spillane, Mick Pyro, Clara Rose, Rob Strong, Pat Collins, Martin Furey, Paddy Casey and Declan O'Rourke. In the early 1970's nobody in Ireland personified the raw energy of rock and blues music like Rob Strong, one of the most unique voices of the era. Rob and the overdrive brass section of the Plattermen laid down some of the funkiest sounds ever heard in an Associated Ballroom. But it wasn't always that way. A rather tame looking Rob first entered the showband scene as the bass player with The Polka Dots, a far cry from his latter days with the Plattermen. Our best guess is that Rob started his career in the early 60's. He's perhaps destined to be remembered as father of Andrew of Commitments fame, but Rob Strong is a force to be reckoned with in his own right..
